Brynn Aubry's Birth Story!

At my appointment last Monday my BP was on the rise and there was more protein in my urine than the previous week. (I was also dilated to 3 cm already!!) She decided to get some bloodwork done to check for pre-eclampsia. When we got the results back on Tuesday, my Dr wanted to see me again on Wednesday. I went in at 1:45 and she checked me again and I was now 3-1/2 cm. She decided to admit me to the hospital to do a 24 hour urine test and more bloodwork to see if she wanted to induce me either Thursday or Friday. She was really torn between inducing me or not since I was still so early but clearly things were seeming to go downhill so she was hoping for something to come up during this testing in the hospital that would push her to make a decision.


Everything was going fine, nothing too much going on other than a few painless contractions. My Dr came in around 7 that evening and said that the blood test came back and one of my blood levels was slightly elevated but she was going to wait and see what the urine test came back at and how things went over the next few days. Scott and I got settled for a long few days in the hospital and tried to get some sleep. All of a sudden, at 12:30am my water broke!!!! When I say broke I mean BURST. This was no small leak, it went everywhere!! I have to admit, it did freak me out a little bit. I paged the nurse and she came in to make sure it was my water (there was no doubting that it was though). My contractions suddenly came on hard and strong. I was in so much pain!! Scott was getting a little worried so he went out and got the nurse who came in and asked me if I wanted an epi (boy did I!!) They came up pretty quickly to put in the epi. When they checked me before I got it I was at 6-7cm! Scott called the 'rents and told them where we were but told them they had some time to get there. (yeah right!) a few minutes later, two nurses came in and started making me turn from one side to the next to try to get Brynn to drop down. I was at 10cm and ready to start pushing!!! Scott called the parents back and told them to get their butts up there ASAP!! (turns out his mom was running red lights trying to get there and my mom sped down the freeway the whole way!!) His mom got there right before I started pushing and my mom and sister got there a few minutes later. 3 hours after my water broke and 6-7 pushes later, my little girl was born at 3:34am on August 28th, 2008!! She was three weeks early and weighed in at 7lbs 2 oz (big for being so early) and is 18in long.

Big sister Kenzie couldn't be more proud and hardly gives anyone time to hold her little sister. She even sings her lullabies. We are all so glad to be home and are getting settled in with the newest member of our family!!

So far, we are dealing with a little jaundice and some breastfeeding issues (she is an eager feeder but we can't seem to get the latch right and my nipples are KILLING me!!) So for now, I am pumping but can't get my supply up to what she needs so we are having to suppliment with formula.
